About the role:

We have an incredibly exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our growing team at Southern Ocean Carbon as our new Operations Manager.

In this role, you will never have two days the same. 

You could be out on the water checking leases, deploying additional acreage, in the office planning and costing future deployments, leading, mentoring, and growing our team, liaising with scientists and regulators, cleaning gear off, preparing hatchery operations, completing necessary risk assessments- you, the environment and the seaweed will drive your day-to-day.

Qualifications we are looking for:

You need to have on-water marine management experience, be qualified to at least coxswain level, be committed to environmental and business excellence, and have proven business management and leadership abilities.

In addition, you must have a passion for team-building, business excellence, and improving the planet, and be looking for your next challenge in a globally significant, purpose-driven company. Seaweed or other mariculture experience is preferred, but other relevant backgrounds may be considered.

Some key responsibilities of the role are as follows:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership to and management of the SOCC team.
  • Build the capacity and capability of the SOCC team and ensure they are well-supported and able to work effectively at all times.
  • Take on all aspects of the planning, permissioning, deployment, maintenance, and operations of our current and future seaweed plant-outs.
  • Support the Founder in preparing bids for future projects. 
  • Provide overall management and leadership of all business functions and to ensure activities are compliant with the organisations’ legislated, as well as ISO-certified, management systems- with a target of Zero Harm at all times.
  • Drive an innovative and lean culture to achieve continual process improvements and efficiencies.
  • Oversee commercial and contractual compliance for projects, monitor the performance of each project, and provide effective leadership and guidance to project teams as necessary.
  • Actively seek new opportunities for SOCC domestically and internationally and support the Founder to do so.
  • Support the wider aims and businesses of the ADEC Innovations group of companies and the global CEO.

To be competitive for the role you should have the following characteristics/experience:

  • A relevant marine qualification and the experience and capacity that allows you to quickly thrive in this role.
  • Seaweed/mariculture experience and excellent and proven leadership and management skills. 
  • A passion for managing small teams of highly skilled and talented individuals and the ability to grow a strong culture of excellence and service.
  • High level written and verbal communications skills and a proven ability to understand and present complex information to a variety of stakeholders.
  • The desire to innovate, to look at new and emerging opportunities, and to intelligently and boldly go where less talented individuals fear to tread.
