We’re evolving - Southern Ocean Carbon is now Next Wave Seaweed. Here’s why:
Since launching in 2020, Southern Ocean Carbon has been dedicated to creating positive change – initially with a focus on making our sister company ADEC Kedge carbon-neutral and exploring the potential of seaweed for carbon sequestration.
Over the past few years, there have been a number of developments in the seaweed industry and the world is facing many challenges. We feel that the role of seaweed is bigger and more diverse than ever, and so is our mission. We’ve been involved in seven research projects, partnered with the Blue Economy CRC, and prepared to expand into new sectors such as organic fertilisers, animal feed, IMTA, human food and seaweed farm development.
In 2023, we became part of ADEC Innovations, a global ESG, professional services and positive impact organisation, which enabled us to accelerate our ambitions and look beyond Tasmania towards other locations where seaweed can make a difference and deliver sustainable solutions to benefit the next generations.
This year, we regrouped our team and decided on a new brand name that reflects our future direction.
We’re proud to announce that Southern Ocean Carbon has become Next Wave Seaweed.

Chief Innovation Officer Tim Harmsen says:
“The Southern Ocean Carbon team is stoked to be drifting into the new era of seaweed services under the new name Next Wave Seaweed. The global seaweed industry is bustling with fresh ideas and sustainable developments, and we couldn't be more excited to be helping steer this seaweed industry ship toward a big future.”
